Digital currency, more commonly know as cryptocurrency, can be bought or sold with fiat currency, such as US dollars. Cryptocurrencies can also be transferred from one individual to another directly, without a mediator such as a bank. Bitcoin is an example of a Cryptocurrency.
To buy or sell a cryptocurrency, a Cryptocurrency Exchange must be used, such as Coinbase. To hold or transfer cryptocurrency, a Cryptocurrency Wallet must be used.
